2012 London Olympics is just a month away and sports fans are eagerly waiting for the great sports event to start. At 2012 London Olympics, 3 different gymnastics disciplines will be included. These are rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics and trampoline. The trampoline events will be held at the North Greenwich Arena on August 3 and 4. Trampoline is the newest one of the 3 Gymnastics disciplines on the Olympic programme.
Devised at the University of Iowa in the 1930s, the first modern trampoline was initially used as a training tool for acrobats, astronauts and athletes. However, it became famous to such an extent that in the year 1964 the first ever Trampoline World Championships were held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Trampoline made its Olympic debut at the Sydney Games in 2000. Since then, it has consistently featured overwhelming displays of gymnastic excellence, with athletes jumping to heights of up to 10 meters.
There will be 32 athletes (16 men and 16 women) participating in this sport. Each country is limited to 2 men athletes and 2 women athletes. In Trampoline, each competition for men and women features 2 phases including the qualification round and the final round. In the qualification round, athletes will have to perform two voluntary routines. The first routine (with 2 skills counting for difficulty) focuses on simplicity and excellent execution, whereas the second routine has no difficulty limitations. The 8 athletes with the best scores will be taken to the final for one more voluntary routine of 10 different skills, which will determine the results of the competition. 11 judges will watch the routine and grant scores for difficulty, execution and time of flight. Marks will be taken off for errors and infringements.
