The much awaited sports event ‘Olympics’ is too close now. Everyone is thrilled to welcome the event. 2012 London Olympics will be started from 28th July to 7th August. Diving is also included in one of the four Aquatics disciplines at the Games. Other aquatics include Water Polo, Swimming and Synchronized Swimming. Diving has been scheduled to be held from 29 July to 11 August 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre.
Diving made its Olympic debut in the year 1904, where medals were awarded only for men in the 10m Platform and the Plunge for Distance (a Diving long jump event which appeared for the first and last time in the Olympics). Later in the year 1912, Women’s Diving was introduced whereas Synchronized Diving made its Olympic debut at Sydney in 2000.There will be total 136 (68 men and 68 women) divers competing for the medals. All divers must have an age of at least 14 years on or by December 31, 2012.
Each country is limited to 2 athletes in each individual event and one team (2 athletes) in each Synchronized event. There will be 4 men’s and 4 women’s events including 10m Platform, 3m Springboard, Synchronized 3m Springboard and Synchronized 10m Platform. Athletes will compete individually and in pairs (synchronized diving or ‘synchro’). Individual events will include a preliminary round, semi-final and final while the ‘synchro’ competitions will be straight finals. Seven judges will be there for the individual events and whereas the Synchronized events will have eleven judges. Each of the judges will score the dives out of 10.
