Third time London will host this grand sports event in year 2012. You will really enjoy a lot in this event as it includes 26 different sports such as Basketball, Athletics, Football, Handball, Tennis, Diving, Hockey, Swimming, Cycling, Fencing, Marathon, Table tennis, Rowing, etc. and 19 Paralympic sports. This event will take place in about 31 venues, where more than 205 countries will participate. Over 3,50,000 spectators are expected to enjoy different events every day.
Basketball has developed into one of the most famous team sports in the world, which was started by North America. Players need to have speed, strength and stamina as well as excellent ball skills and the ability to think on their feet and play tactically to compete in this fast and physically demanding game, Basketball. The National Basketball Association (NBA) in the UK features players from more than 30 countries for this worldwide game. Initial group phase and women’s quarter-finals will be held in Olympic Park - Basketball Arena. Men’s quarter-finals, all semi-finals as well as finals will take place in North Greenwich Arena.
One hundred forty four men and one hundred forty four women will participate in this competition for two medals; one for men’s and one for women’s competition. Twelve teams will compete in both the men’s and women’s competitions, and every team features five players and seven substitutes. The dimension of basketball court is 28m long and 15m wide and the baskets at either end are 3.05m above the ground. This court is separated in two halves, with a free-throw line 5.8m inside either end, as well as the three-point line a 6.75m radius from every basket.
