The countdown for the much-waited sports event, London Olympics 2012 has been already started and the Olympics Junkie and sports lovers are very excited for it. The opening ceremony and closing ceremony of this grand event will be held on 27 July, 2012 and 12 August, 2012 respectively. Total 205 nations and more than 17,000 athletes are going to participate in this biggest sports event of 2012. There will be 300 events in 26 sports category, which will be played at 31 venues. 26 sports category includes sports like badminton, gymnastics, athletics, cycling, diving, archery, football, hockey, swimming, wrestling, volleyball, weightlifting, taekwondo and many more.
Now, shooting has been popular throughout the world. This sport challenges mental strength instead of physical. This sport category will be held from 28th July to 5th August. The events will be played at Royal Artillery Barracks. There will be 15 Gold medals to win in this sport. 390 athletes will take part in shooting at London Olympics 2012 in which 223 are men and 143 are women and the remaining athletes are not confirmed yet. All the countries are able to send 28 athletes (2 athletes per country in every event excluding the women’s Trap and Skeet).
There will be total 15 events of shooting in three events: Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun (5 in each). From 15 events, 9 are for men and 6 for women. The athlete will target at a 10-ring from 10m, 25m or 50m distance. The position of the shooting (standing, kneeling or prone) will rely on the event. Athletes are required to shoot at moving clay targets in Shotgun events. The targets will be stationary in the Rifle and Pistol events as well as moving in the Shotgun events. Rules of all the events are different.
The best 8 athletes will be selected and moved to the final round throughout the qualification phases. In the final round, ten rings of the target are further divided into 10 decimal score zones. Total scores and final rankings will be decided on the basis of the final score + qualification score. The athlete with the highest score will be the winner of events.
